Chances Art Project - Aces High
Aces High was a concept piece that I used my love for tennis
as the inspiration. I followed the path of four tennis pros (Serena
Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic) who just
happen to make it to the finals of the US Open. I tracked their serving
progress throughout the tournament starting on 9/6/12 and recorded the
number of aces each hit...a completely random number for each.
Then I purchased some poker chips (ultimate symbols for a game of chance) to represent the number of aces each hit and placed them in a glass jar. I must admit that the thinking process behind Aces High was much more creative than the actual artwork but I used my full faculties to come up with the idea. I assigned them each a color: Serena - green, Victoria - red, Andy - blue and Novak - black. The pieces were thrown into the jar randomly after their individual matches had finished and I think that conceptually I captured the essence of the project.
